Internships programme

Internship Programme 2010
We are looking for highly motivated young people who are ready to contribute to all aspects of the company's activity through our Internships programme. Could one of them be you?

A number of volunteers with Swamp have gone on to find further employment in the arts field, or onto further circus based training, so it can be a good stepping stone for the future! We hope to offer invaluable experience of the arts sector, both community arts and our commercial arm, to help our interns kick-start their professional careers.

The internship programme will include both performing and teaching roles and backstage roles in marketing, administration and fundraising - the exact balance will be tailored to suit each intern.

Each intern will be expected to complete the Arts Award: Silver programme and we will also offer further accredited training.

Tutor/Performer Intern – enthusiasm is more important than experience, but we would expect that an applicant for this position to be able to offer skills either in drama, dance or circus. An interest in working with young people is vital. This is a practical role which will develop your teaching and workshop skills as well providing a chance to improve your performing ability. Please note this is not a circus skills course as such.
Marketing/Administration Intern – this is a vital hands-on role, and will introduce you to the basics of what is involved in running projects and marketing an arts organisation both commercially and within a community setting. Again, no experience is necessary, but you must be a good communicator and be familiar with Microsoft Office.

Dates: We will be looking for a commitment of 30 hours per week for a 13 week period, although there may be the opportunity to work fewer hours over a longer period of time. This time can be tailored to the individual, but must happen between April 2010 and March 2011.
Location: Interns will be based at our office at The Magna Centre, Templeborough, South Yorkshire.

A contribution towards expenses will be available to qualifying interns. All applicants must be aged between 16-25 at the start of the programme.

How to apply: Applications are being considered now. To apply, in the first instance, please send a CV and a covering letter (approx one side of A4) outlining why you would like to be an intern with Swamp Circus Trust, what you would bring to the programme, and what you would like to achieve.
Closing date: 15th May for a July start, but applications are welcome any time.

Applications should be sent to Nic, Volunteer Co-ordinator at nic@swamptrust.org.uk. If you have any questions, she can also be reached on 01709 828477. If you prefer to send your application by post, the address is: Nic Wray, Swamp Circus Trust Limited, The Magna Centre, Sheffield Road, Templeborough, S60 1DX, United Kingdom.

Swamp Circus is fully committed to Equal Opportunities.

If an internship is not for you, but you would like to find more information on short term volunteering for Swamp Circus Trust, again contact Nic.

This project is supported by vinvolved - inspiring a million more young volunteers.
